Aim Higher - National Network for Collaborative Outreach (NNCO): Overview
Aim Higher West Midlands have been clients since 2008. Their work benefits disadvantaged children by helping them access higher education
Aim Higher West Midlands was originally part of a national organisation helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds into higher education. In 2010, when central funding was cut, Aim Higher continued in the West Midlands funded by partner universities and schools. Now part of the new national NNCO scheme Aim Higher is looking at new ways to encourage young people to set higher goals for themselves, via improved learning.
We target teachers and advisors and make them aware of the opportunities that exist for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Services provided include school visits and individual mentoring, campus visits and summer schools. Parallel has recently redesigned and built the new website, developed a new sub-brand aimed at primary school children and is developing a suite of games aimed at helping transition to secondary school and illustrating how learning can lead to better life opportunities.
An innovative way of communicating with 11 & 12 year olds has seen the development of a suite on online games. The games are part of the Move on Up initiative that introduce students to secondary school and help extol the virtues of a fully rounded education. Click here to play the games.
